Rangers sign Higashioka to two year deal

The Texas Rangers have signed catcher Kyle Higashioka to a two year deal with a mutual option for 2027, the team announced today.

Higashioka was originally a 7th round pick of the New York Yankees in 2008, though he didn’t reach the majors until 2017, and didn’t reach triple digits in plate appearances in a season until 2021. Higashioka backed up Gary Sanchez for the Yankees in 2021 and Jose Trevino in 2022 before starting a plurality of games behind the plate for New York in 2023.

Higashioka was sent to the San Diego Padres as part of the package that brought Juan Soto and Trent Grisham to New York a year ago.
