The Rangers have signed Delino DeShields and Sam Gaviglio to minor league deals, the team announced today.
DeShields, of course, is the name of significance here. DeShields was, as I’m sure you know, drafted by the Rangers from the Houston Astros in the Rule 5 draft, had some ups and some downs, and ended up getting dealt to the Cleveland Indians last offseason in the Corey Kluber trade.
DeShields had a bad 2020, was non-tendered, and now presumably is here in Texas as outfield depth and to give the Rangers an option beside Eli White to man center field if they decide Leody Taveras needs more time in the minors.
