Rangers sign Chris Martin

The Texas Rangers have signed relief pitcher Chris Martin to a one year deal, the team announced today. To make room for Martin on the 40 man roster, the Rangers have designated relief pitcher Matt Festa for assignment.

The 38 year old Martin is an Arlington native who spent 2016-17 pitching in Japan, then signed a two year deal with Texas when he returned to the United States. The Rangers traded Martin to the Atlanta Braves at the 2019 deadline for Kolby Allard, and Martin stuck around with the Braves through 2021. After splitting the 2022 season between the Cubs and the Dodgers, Martin has spent the past two seasons pitching for the Boston Red Sox, and finished 12th in the Cy Young voting in 2023.
