SURPRISE, Ariz. - Hunkered down in the desert for five weeks, maybe the Rangers are starting to see mirages in the Arizona heat.
Or maybe they are just seeing the possibilities.
With less than two weeks to go to opening day, the Rangers may be looking at some pretty unconventional ideas for the opening day roster. And the key phrase here is "opening day roster," because the roster must be malleable, depending on needs as they emerge. For the start of the season, though, the need is a fortified pitching staff that won't place too much burden on either the rotation or the bullpen.
