The Rangers have claimed left-handed pitcher Eric Surkamp off waivers from the Oakland Athletics, the club announced Wednesday. He was optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
To make room for the 28-year-old lefty on the 40-man roster, the Rangers transferred outfielder Drew Stubbs from the 15-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.
Surkamp is 0-5 with a 6.98 ERA in nine starts spanning four different stints with the A's this season. He pitched 38 2/3 innings, allowing 55 hits and 32 runs (30 earned) to go with 21 walks and 22 strikeouts. Oakland designated him for assignment June 27.
