To make room for Gomez on their roster, the Rangers designated outfielder Drew Stubbs for assignment. Stubbs had played in nine games since being activated from the 60-day disabled list on Aug. 10. For the season, the 31-year-old veteran was batting .259 with three home runs and six RBIs in 39 games with the Rangers and Braves.
The Rangers signed Gomez to a Minor League deal on Saturday after the 30-year-old outfielder was released by the Astros. In 85 games with Houston this season, Gomez batted .210 with five home runs, 29 RBIs and 13 stolen bases.
