The Texas Rangers have placed outfielders Travis Jankowski and Robbie Grossman on waivers, per Kiley McDaniel on Twitter, who says that the pair are among less than ten players put on waivers today. As McDaniel explains, this allows a team to clear salary and a roster spot if a player is claimed, though if the player isn’t claimed, the player can still stay with the club.
It used to be that pretty much every player in MLB was placed on revocable waivers at some point in August, since a player couldn’t be traded after July 31 unless he had cleared waivers.
