ARLINGTON -- The Rangers placed right-handed pitcher Doug Fister on the 10-day disabled list, retroactive to Saturday, with a strained right knee and recalled infielder Hanser Alberto from Triple-A Round Rock.
Fister strained his knee during his start against the Astros on Friday night. Since the Rangers are off on Monday and Thursday, the schedule allows them to go with four starters until a fifth is needed on June 19 against the Royals. That would be the first day Fister is eligible to be activated.
Calling up Alberto allows the Rangers to have an extra bench player for their two-game series with the Dodgers on Tuesday and Wednesday in Los Angeles.
