MESA, Ariz. - Rangers left-hander Drew Smyly continued his recovery from Tommy John surgery by working two scoreless innings in a 4-1 loss to Oakland. It was his first multi-inning appearance since March 26, 2017 while with Seattle.
Smyly felt out of sync with his delivery in the first inning. He went to a full count on three of the four hitters faced and threw 21 pitches.
Smyly made the necessary corrections in the second and retired the side in order on 16 pitches.
"It's a very encouraging sign to pitch, sit down and go back out and pitch and feel better in the second inning,'' Smyly said.
