ARLINGTON -- The Rangers are interviewing former Yankees manager Joe Girardi on Friday.
Girardi is the latest candidate to be interviewed for the Rangers' managerial opening after Jeff Banister was dismissed last month. Texas interviewed farm director Jayce Tingler, Astros bench coach Joe Espada and Cubs bench coach Brandon Hyde earlier this week.
The Rangers are also expected to interview interim manager Don Wakamatsu before the process is over. Other possibilities include Indians first-base coach Sandy Alomar and Phillies third-base coach Dusty Wathan. Girardi is the first candidate to be interviewed with previous managerial experience.
Girardi spent 10 years as the Yankees' manager, and he averaged 91 wins per season.
