ARLINGTON -- The Rangers have agreed to a new contract with pitcher Dillon Gee. The split contract puts Gee on the 40-man roster and he has agreed to be optioned to Triple-A Round Rock.
Gee, who originally signed with the Rangers on a Minor League contract, will pitch as a starter at Round Rock and in preparation to be a possible option when the Rangers need a fifth starter. The Rangers are planning to go with four starters until April 15, the first day they would need a fifth starter.
The Rangers aren't sure if Andrew Cashner will be ready to return to the rotation.
