Rangers dedicate Charley Pride Field at Surprise

The Texas Rangers had a dedication ceremony yesterday in which they renamed Field 2 at their spring training complex in Surprise, Arizona, “Charley Pride Field.” The field was re-named in honor of the legendary country singer Charley Pride, who passed away on December 12, 2020, at the age of 86.

Before he became a Hall of Fame musician, Pride was a minor league baseball player, and for decades was a fixture at the Rangers’ spring training facilities, where he would work out with the team. Pride also was one of the investors in the group that bought the Rangers from Tom Hicks in 2010, and was a minority investor in the team up until his passing last year.
