ANAHEIM -- As the Rangers' West Coast journey comes to a close this weekend at San Diego, it could be time for more "openers."
Rangers manager Jeff Banister said Wednesday that as many as two Interleague games against the Padres this weekend could be started by relievers, with the scheduled member of the rotation then stepping to absorb the middle innings.
Friday is rookie left-hander Yohander Mendez's day to pitch, but instead of making his fourth Major League start, he could merely be making his 14th career appearance.
