The Rangers purchased the contract of right-handed pitcher Tanner Scheppers from Triple-A Round Rock on Monday as the team moved starting pitcher A.J. Griffin from the 10-day disabled list to the 60-day DL.
To make room for Scheppers on the major league roster, Texas optioned outfielder Jard Hoying to Round Rock.
Scheppers made contributions from the Rangers bullpen in 2013 but has struggled with injuries since he was moved to the starting rotation in 2014. The injuries have included elbow and knee problems and an abdominal strain that sent him to the DL to start the 2017 season.
