ARLINGTON -- A brief primer on using handwear as weapons: Slap somebody across the face with gloves and you've just issued a challenge to a to-the-death-duel; throw them on the field, though, and you receive a four-game suspension.
The latter, at least, in the minds of Major League Baseball.
A day after Asdrubal Cabrera tossed his batting gloves, inside his shinguards, on the field from the Rangers' dugout to protest an ejection by home-plate umpire Doug Eddings, he was suspended four games for throwing equipment on the field. Reportedly, a piece of the equipment made contact with crew chief Bill Miller, who had come toward the Rangers dugout over the hubbub.
