The Texas Rangers have purchased the contract of infielder Austin Romine, the team announced today. To make room for Romine, the Rangers designated pitcher Nick Goody for assignment.
Romine’s addition was necessary due to the unavailability of Anderson Tejeda, who was scratched from the lineup with a skin infection. That left the Rangers with a lack of infield bench depth, and while there are just four games left in the season, having only two bench players other than the backup catcher is problematic. So Romine gets to be the UIF, just in case, for the final four games.
