The Texas Rangers have signed veteran outfielder Kevin Pillar to a minor league deal, the team announced today.
The 36 year old Pillar originally came up with the Toronto Blue Jays, and spent several years as a quality center fielder for the Jays due to his strong glovework. He’s largely been relegated to a platoon role in recent years, however, and is no longer a plus defender in center.
Pillar signed with the Chicago White Sox last year, was released at the end of April, was picked up by the Angels, and finished out the year with them.
