ARLINGTON-- This past season, Texas native and Forney High School pitcher Mason Englert broke a 48-year-old state record held by former Rangers pitcher David Clyde when he threw 55 1/3 consecutive scoreless innings.
Now, Englert is headed to the Rangers after being selected with the team's fourth-round pick (119th overall) on Day 2 of the 2018 MLB Draft.
Rangers amateur scouting director Kip Fagg said he had several chances this season to watch Englert pitch in Forney, which is an hour east of Dallas.
"[He's a] very competitive kid who's got pitches and feel, and we're excited about him to come in the system and add another young starter," Fagg said.
