Rangers 3B coach Tony Beasley, who battled cancer this season, wins Good Guy award

Texas Rangers third base coach Tony Beasley, who fought stage 2 rectal cancer throughout last season, was named the winner of the 2016 Harold McKinney Good Guy Award. The Rangers announced the selection, by the Dallas-Fort Worth chapter of the Baseball Writers Association of America, on Wednesday.

After his cancer was discovered during spring training, Beasley shuttled between Houston for treatments and the club throughout the season. He was unable to participate in on-the-field activities but had an impact on the club as a teacher, counselor and confidante to manager Jeff Banister.

Through it all, Beasley was unfailingly open and upbeat.
