We are nearing the end of January, spring training is a few weeks away, and while the big rush of offseason activity has slowed, there are still some transactions happening, a couple of which I felt the desire to talk about this afternoon.
First, the trade of Ryan Pressly from the Houston Astros to the Chicago Cubs became official today. The Astros are getting 20 year old minor league righthanded pitcher Juan Bello in the deal, and are reportedly sending $5.5 million to the Cubs as part of the deal.
The Astros had been rumored to be shopping Pressly for a while, and we talked last Friday about Pressly using his 10/5 rights to veto a deal that would sent him where he didn’t want to go, which was reportedly geographically west or east.
