Pitcher Drew Smyly records first victory since 2016 as Rangers extend winning streak to five games

ANAHEIM, Calif. -- Pitching wins don't matter any longer.

Except when they do.

They matter when you've gone more than two years and a Tommy John surgery between them. They matter when they extend win streaks. And they matter when you help the pitching staff prop up an offense that has, for the most part, been a team's strength.

They mattered Friday when Drew Smyly went six innings in the Rangers' 4-3 win over the Los Angeles Angels. It extended the Rangers' win streak to five games and it took some burden off the heavy-lifting duo of Mike Minor and Lance Lynn, the only Rangers' starters who had authored quality starts before Friday.
