One item emerged from the Rangers' flurry of pitching-driven moves in July.
On this club, closers are replaceable.
The Rangers sent their closer, Keone Kela, to Pittsburgh for two prospects. Nothing unusual there. General manager Jon Daniels also made in-season trades of closers Eric Gagne in 2007 and Joakim Soria in 2014.
Daniels worked for John Hart, whose failed run as Rangers general manager included dealing away closer Ugueth Urbina during the 2001 season.
The departure of Kela, who had 24 saves in 25 chances, marks the fourth consecutive season in which the Rangers' opening-day closer did not make it to Aug.
