Nathan Eovaldi has been named the Opening Day starter for the Texas Rangers. He will go up against the Boston Red Sox and, presumably, Garrett Crochet at 3:05 p.m. Central time on Thursday, March 27.
This is the second consecutive year that the Rangers will have Eovaldi as their Opening Day starter. He held the Chicago Cubs to two runs in six innings on Opening Day last year in a game that the Rangers won 4-3 on a 10th inning walkoff single by Jonah Heim in a game that Travis Jankowski tied up with a pinch hit home run to start the bottom of the ninth.
