Murder? Quiet offseasons around MLB aren't killing the game, it's part of baseball's evolution

Does Jon Daniels strike you as a murderer?

After a dozen seasons as Rangers GM, Daniels, now a ripe old 40, can be accused of many things. I would say something along the lines of Putting Together a Fourth-Place Team, possibly a misdemeanor, seems more fitting. But agent Scott Boras accused a dozen people of Daniels' ilk of the worst of crimes against the great game of baseball.

"The difference between an accident and murder is intent," Boras said last week. "Teams are intentionally murdering seasons, and fans are dying with it."

His complaint -- issued before Yu Darvish signed with the Chicago Cubs Saturday -- relates to the fact that 30 teams will open spring training this week and the rest of the prominent free agents of winter -- pitchers Jake Arrieta, Greg Holland and Lance Lynn, hitters J.
