Major League Baseball is raising the minimum salary for minor league players as of the 2021 season, per the AP. Short-season players will now be at $400 per week, A ball players will be at $500 per week, AA players will be at $600 per week, and AAA players will be at $700 per week, per the AP.
The pittance that is paid to most minor leaguers has been a hot button issue in recent years, with MLB having lobbied to get a federal law passed exempting minor leaguers from federal minimum wage laws. Arguments were made that requiring minor league players to be paid in accordance with minimum wage laws would result in some minor league teams or minor leagues being shut down.
