On Sunday, Yahoo Japan reported Milwaukee has made an offer to Darvish, a free agent. The report did not give the length of the offer or a dollars figure. Darvish linked to the story on Twitter.
The Brewers, a surprise contender in the National League Central last season, have been expected to be active on what has been a slow free-agent market. Milwaukee has payroll flexibility and needs a replacement for No. 1 starter Jimmy Nelson, expected to miss a substantial portion of the first half after undergoing shoulder surgery.
At least three other clubs are known to be interested in Darvish: the Chicago Cubs, Minnesota and the New York Yankees.
