As far as pomp goes, being on the opening day roster is a very big deal. The introductions. The flyover. The bunting (the fabric kind).
But as far as the full season goes, well, it's not such a big deal.
Kevin Jepsen anyone?
Or to go back a little farther than just last year, consider these members of the Rangers opening day roster over recent seasons: Mike Hauschild (2017), Justin Ruggiano (2016), Jake Smolinksi (2015) or Donnie Murphy (2014).
Our point: Standing on the line on opening day is hardly indicative of a role for the season.
