Oakland A’s third baseman Matt Chapman will undergo hip surgery, it has been announced. Chapman will as a result miss the remainder of the 2020 season.
Chapman has been Oakland’s best player the last few seasons, and so this is a significant blow. The A’s have a seven game lead in the American League West, so their playoff chances aren’t likely impacted by this, but they will be a weaker team in the postseason without Chapman.
The A’s also announced that left handed pitcher A.J. Puk will undergo season-ending shoulder surgery this coming week.
