Mason Englert, the Texas Rangers 4th round pick in 2018 as a left handed pitcher out of Forney, Texas, underwent Tommy John surgery Friday, per the beat guys.
The Rangers farm system had been relatively injury free in the early going, but this is a fairly significant blow. Englert received an above-slot bonus to sign out Forney High School, and the reports from Instructionals last fall and then from Surprise this spring suggest that he could end up moving quickly up the prospect rankings. Now, Englert will be rehabbing, and likely won’t see his first pro game action until short season ball starts up in June, 2020.
