Marriage born of necessity: How Matt Harvey could join the Rangers' home for lost pitchers

ARLINGTON - Matt Harvey and the Rangers: a potential marriage born of necessity.

The Rangers need starting pitching.

Their rotation went into Saturday’s game against Boston at Globe Life Park at 9-15 with a 5.15 ERA. Two starters - Matt Moore and the injured Martin Perez - each have an ERA of more than 7.50.

Harvey needs to pitch to re-establish his fading value before going into free agency after the season.

Harvey became available when the New York Mets designated their former No. 1 starter and toast of Gotham for assignment. They have seven days to trade or release him.
