The Seattle Mariners and San Francisco Giants have made a trade. Pitcher Robbie Ray goes from the Mariners to the Giants in exchange for outfielder Mitch Haniger and pitcher Anthony DiSclafani. The Giants are also sending $3 million to the Mariners in this deal to balance out the 2024 salaries.
The Mariners signed Ray to a 5 year, $115 million deal after Ray won the Cy Young Award with the Toronto Blue Jays after the 2021 season. Ray put up a 2.1 bWAR in 2022 — the third highest of his career — in 189 innings in 2022, but appeared in just one game in 2023, and ended up undergoing Tommy John surgery in May of last year.
