The Texas Rangers designated Jonathan Hernandez for assignment at the trade deadline, and he was claimed on waivers by the Seattle Mariners on August 2. Less than a week later, Hernandez has been designated for assignment by the Mariners.
The 28 year old righthanded reliever appeared in three games for Seattle, including each of the last two days against the Tigers. Hernandez, who has had ongoing control issues, only threw 6 of 18 pitches for strikes last night, ultimately allowing three runs in the top of the ninth while recording just one out.
Since the trade deadline is past, he can’t be dealt, and will instead have to be put on waivers.
