Lyles to be one of the tandem starters

Jordan Lyles will occupy one of the Texas Rangers tandem starter roles this season, Chris Woodward announced after today’s game (per the beat guys). The Rangers will have three traditional starters — Kyle Gibson, Mike Foltynewicz and Kohei Arihara — and will have the final two rotation spots filled by a pair of pitchers apiece, who will each pitch effectively half of a start.

Lyles was signed to a two year deal after 2019, but was a major disappointment for the Rangers last year. Early this spring Woodward said the team was not going to use Lyles in a traditional starter role, feeling he profiles best at 50-60 pitches per game.
