The Texas Rangers announced today that they declined their 2021 contract option on Corey Kluber, making him a free agent. The Rangers also announced that righthanded pitcher Ian Gibaut was claimed on waivers by the Minnesota Twins, and righthanded pitcher Luke Farrell has cleared waivers and been outrighted.
Kluber’s 2021 team option was for $18 million, with a $1 million buyout. The Rangers only got one inning of work out of him in the pandemic-abbreviated 2020 season before losing him for the year with a shoulder injury.
