Los Angeles Angels outfielder Justin Upton will miss the next two to three months of the season due to turf toe, the team announced today. Upton was injured when he collided with the outfield fence in a spring training game, jamming his big toe.
Upton, 31, put up an 808 OPS last season, and looked to be the only significant offensive weapon in the Angels lineup, outside of Mike Trout, until Shohei Ohtani returns from Tommy John surgery. The Angels were already facing an uphill battle to get into contention in 2019, and the loss of Upton will make things even more difficult for them.
