The 22 year old came into tonight with a 6.38 ERA in 42.1 IP for Frisco, with his command problems making him vulnerable to high pitch counts and big innings, and leading some to suggest that the Rangers should go ahead and move him to the bullpen, where he has the potential to be an impact reliever. Hernandez apparently isn’t ready to be relegated to relief work, however — going up against the Corpus Christi Hooks tonight, Hernandez went 7 shutout innings, striking out 10, walking none and allowing just 3 hits. Perhaps most impressively, he needed just 89 pitches to do that, and 63 of those were strikes.
Jonathan Hernandez was awesome tonight
