NEW YORK - A few quotes from the aftermath of the Rangers-Yankees rain-delayed marathon that ended with the Rangers taking a 9-6 win early Tuesday morning in the Bronx:
Yankees manager Joe Girardi said in his post-game comments to New York reporters that he did not ask for the game to be stopped in the ninth inning when he came out of the dugout to talk to the umpires. But he did think it should have been stopped earlier.
Acting umpiring crew chief Paul Nauert said that the umpiring crew was simply trying to maintain the integrity of the game by making sure it was completed, which is why his crew was willing to wait 3:35 to finish things.
