Jerry Remy, the longtime Boston Red Sox announcer and former MLB player, died last night, it is being reported. Remy, who was 68, had been battling lung cancer off and on since 2008.
Remy was a Massachusetts native who started his career with the California Angels, spending the 1975-77 seasons as their starting second baseman. After the 1977 season he was traded to the Boston Red Sox for Don Aase, and spent the next seven years with his hometown team, where he was a fan favorite. He ended his career as a .275/.327/.328 hitter with a career bWAR of 14.
