Jeremy Hellickson has retired. The 32 year old righthanded pitcher, who logged 10 years and 224 starts in the major leagues, announced today he is hanging it up and moving to the next stage of his life.
Hellickson was a 4th round draft pick of the Rays in the 2005 MLB Draft out of Hoover High School in Des Moines, Iowa. He burst on the prospect scene with a terrific 2009 campaign, split between AA and AAA, which landed him in the top 20 on the Baseball America and Baseball Prospectus rankings heading into the 2010 season.
