Former Texas Rangers manager Jeff Banister has been hired as the bench coach for the Arizona Diamondbacks, it was announced today. Banister will be working under manager Torey Lovullo, who has been the D-Backs manager since 2017.
Banister had spent his entire career with the Pittsburgh Pirates before being hired to succeed Ron Washington as the Rangers manager after the 2014 season. Banister won two division titles with the Rangers before the team’s window slammed shut, and he was let go in September of 2018.
Banister was a special assistant with the Pirates in 2019-20. In 2021 he was the director of player development for the University of Northern Colorado baseball team.
