On Wednesday, the Rangers got word first baseman Ronald Guzman would be ready to return from the injured list by the time they got to Houston, leaving them with a glut of infielders and a roster decision to make.
So, naturally, they sent out the only true center fielder on the team.
For the second time in the last four years, the Rangers decided to pull the plug on an offensively struggling Delino DeShields barely a month into a season. Hitting only .182 (.321 OBP) through his first 30 games, DeShields was optioned to Triple-A Nashville for Guzman, who is expected to be added to the roster Thursday.
