SURPRISE, Ariz. -- Jon Daniels wants to make it clear he did not hire Chris Woodward simply because he's a nice guy although the story the general manager tells about the 2017 World Series illustrates what a nice guy Woodward, in fact, is. And yet if that's all you get out of this story, the major point is being missed.
It was Game 5, one of the wildest games not of the 2017 World Series but of any World Series ever, one the Astros eventually would win 13-12 in 10 innings. It was 5 hours, 17 minutes of madness and that included the top of the eighth when Chris Taylor was on third base with one out and Justin Turner lined out to Josh Reddick in fairly deep right field.
