The Texas Rangers have activated third baseman Brock Holt from the injured list, the team announced yesterday. Andy Ibanez was optioned to AAA Round Rock after yesterday’s game, and so Holt is taking Ibanez’s spot on the active roster.
Holt had gone out on a rehab assignment and I think the expectation had been that he would be activated for the Houston series. Ibanez was added to the roster and got some playing time once Holt was placed on the injured list, but slashed just .143/.174/.190 in 23 plate appearances.
Holt will, I would assume, now move into a platoon at third base with Charlie Culberson, and Culberson will continue in his role as the backup infielder, although Isiah Kiner-Falefa and Nick Solak have played almost every inning so far this season, making Culberson’s role as a utility infielder not terribly time consuming up to this point.
