Texas Rangers pitcher Ian Gibaut has had his suspension, which was levied by MLB for throwing at San Diego Padres infielder Manny Machado, reduced from 3 games to 2 games. Gibaut began serving the suspension in last night’s loss.
Gibaut, you may recall, threw behind Machado after Fernando Tatis, Jr., had homered off of Juan Nicasio, who Gibaut relieved, on a 3-0 pitch on a 10-4 game (which promptly became a 14-4 game). Manager Chris Woodward, who was suspended for Tuesday’s game, made remarks after the game about his displeasure over Tatis swinging 3-0 in a blowout, which resulted in much mockery of Woodward and the Rangers over their fealty to “unwritten rules.
