The best story in baseball this season is how Martin Perez suddenly became the pitcher the Rangers always hoped and cussed, only now he's the answer to the Twins' dreams. Which pretty much is the most Rangers story ever.
Before getting into what's gotten into Perez, here's a brief outline of where the Rangers went wrong:
1. Jon Daniels, who didn't exactly have a surfeit of superior options, gave up on a 28-year-old lefty who'd been their No. 1 pitching prospect practically since they signed him at 16.
2. The Rangers didn't give their new kinder, gentler management team an opportunity to undo or at least mitigate any damage done by former regimes.
