How can Rangers fix their pitching? Cutting out the cutter would be a start

SURPRISE, Ariz. -- When they met for the first time to discuss goals for the upcoming year, new Rangers starter Matt Moore outlined two for pitching coach Doug Brocail.

"He wanted to quit Copenhagen and he wanted to quit the cutter," Brocail said. "God bless him. One is good for his health and one is good for his career."

He was also ahead of the rest of the class.

As the Rangers try to remake a pitching that was largely its undoing in 2017, one philosophical element has been prevalent: To cut down on the cut fastballs.
