The Pittsburgh Pirates and free agent pitcher Andrew Heaney have agreed to terms on a one year, $5 million deal plus incentives, per reports.
One has to believe that this was not the deal Heaney was looking for, based both on the overall relatively low value and the fact that he’s signing it after spring training. He spent the last two seasons in the Rangers’ rotation (mostly), having been signed by the Rangers after a quality half-season with the Los Angeles Dodgers in 2022.
I wrote last week about Heaney in the season in review series, noting that he was for the Rangers more or less the guy he has been throughout his career, someone who doesn’t work particularly deep into games and who is a shade below league average as a pitcher.
