ARLINGTON -- The Rangers announced back on May 23 that outfielder Josh Hamilton was going to undergo a third surgery on his left knee to repair lateral and meniscus cartilage, and thus would miss the rest of the season. But when Hamilton underwent surgery on the knee in Houston on Wednesday, Dr. Walter Lowe discovered that the ligament had also been damaged, necessitating a full reconstruction.
Hamilton will begin rehabbing in Houston in the next few days. The team did not have an update on his timetable for return.
After the May announcement, general manager Jon Daniels said that Hamilton was "100 percent" committed to playing next season and that the Rangers would revisit his status with the team in the offseason.
