The third in a series of observations on the Rangers by a scout with an American League club:
Everyone talks about fundamentals, the scout said.
"You hear about it during spring training, and that's about it,'' the scout said.
The Rangers are a case in point, the scout said. They turned into a bad fundamental team last season, he said.
That showed in many ways: shoddy outfield play; erratic base-running; too many walks allowed. The most glaring area, the scout said, came at the plate.
"They give away too many at-bats,'' he said.
