SURPRISE, Ariz. - There are two relevant numbers for Delino DeShields and the Rangers this season: 100 and 200.
That is 200, as in the number of times the club would like for him to reach base as the lead-off hitter.
That is 100, as in the runs DeShields could score if he reaches that goal.
"That's always my goal,"' said DeShields, given a day out of the lineup on Wednesday. "I want to score 100 runs every year.''
Only one major leaguer scored 100 runs from the lead-off spot last season: Dexter Fowler of the Chicago Cubs.
